WOW! Did he just say “You couldn’t play so you’re an official?”
Dan Dakich goes on a rant against Valentine and to each their own opinion on that, but to also say that people referee because they can’t/couldn’t play is completely ridiculous!
I guess I could deduct that those who commentate aren’t even good enough to enter the playing court as a referee or a player.
Don’t you love the fact that we’re held to the level of “perfection”? I especially enjoy it when someone yells “call it both ways” and you glance at the scoreboard and the foul total difference is 1 or 2 fouls. What kind of math are they using?
Opinions are like belly-buttons….everyone has one.

I do love that saying! !
Yes, we are expected to get them all right even if the fan doesn’t know what “right” is by definition.
I say just keep up the good work and continue to strive to serve the game with as much dignity and respect as possible.
That counts towards perfection in my book!

Great Post Refwriter. This is one of the hardest things to do for any sports official. Keeping the body in shape and trying to eat properly can be a daunting task. It takes will and self discipline to stay on top of our game when it comes to fitness levels. In my opinion, the hardest part I would say for the majority is off-season training. You mentioned a good point that by March we are all tired which is true. If we work hard in the off-season to prepare ourselves for camps and our season, the season we can dial it down a notch because of the demands we face night in and night out. But hey, when it comes to working out, just like you, you have to do something that you enjoy doing or mix it up with something new & fresh…
