September 29, 1939: On this day, naval intelligence officer Ian Fleming wrote a top-secret memo suggesting various ways to deceive the Nazis. Four years later, one of his plans was carried out successfully, and ten years after that, Fleming introduced the world to his fictional super spy James Bond.
